KAVAN PARTENAVIA
  • Flexible pushrods Golden Rod Reds used for rudder and elevator, steerable nose wheel used kit pushrod.
  • Covered in Ultra Coat Plus
  • Main Gear has been moved back 1 3/8" from kit spec to improve ground handling
  • The CG used for flights was 2 1/2" from leading edge of wing.
  • Motors used were MPI Pro Max Cobalt 4014. Motors were mounted to a lite ply disc epoxied to the front of the nacelles split at the parting line, one mounting screw above, one mounting screw below to make motor service easier. Nacelle halves held together with clear tape.
  • Props used were 6.5 x 4 Master Airscrew (7x4 cut down to 6.5 x 4) Thrust was about 28 ozs static.
  • ESC used was a Castle Pegasus 35.
  • Battery used was 8 cell 2400 ma Sanyo pack.
  • Static Amp draw from system was 37 amps initial dropping to 32 after 3 or 4 seconds
  • Ready to Fly weight was 55.58 ounces
  • Control throws were set per the kit instructions. The following changes were made. Elevator throw was reduced 80 percent, Rudder throw was reduced 75 percent ( to improve ground handing).
  • Flight times at full throttle were 4 minutes, Flight times at 3/4 throttle were in the 6 minute range.

Kit instructions were not very good. Had to follow the pictures which were pretty good. Questioned the picture with the CG which was too far back on the airfoil.

With the plane set up per kit instructions, ground handling was very twitchy and the nose wheel was very light on the ground. After moving the main gear back the nose wheel steered the plane nicely, but it was still too sensitive even on the inside hole of the servo. I reduced rudder servo throw to 75 percent on my computer radio. The 8 cell 2400 flat back was placed all the way back in the battery tray area to get the CG correct.

ROG take offs from paved surfaces took about 20 feet. Plane has plenty of power and flew very well in 10 to 15 mph winds. In calm conditions plane is a floater and takes a while to glide down for landing. Flights at 1/2 throttle are trainer like and easy to fly. Plane will ROG from dirt, Don't have much grass here in the desert to try grass ROG.

The landing gear is pretty good and easy to bend back to shape after a couple of pancake emergency landings. Never ripped the gear out of the fuselage.
