This plane is such a sweet flyer. You do have to hold on when you crank up full throttle though. Easily 1 1/2 times faster than a cobalt prop TJ. Stalls are very stable and the wing handles 22.5 oz/sq foot wing loading with out a problem. Nose high landings are a piece of cake.
The CP 1700s definitely get better as you abuse them at a 60 amp draw. Everytime we charged we got more capacity. The last charge got up to 1850 ma.
The composite construction worked out to be strong enough to survive through 3 crashes, and in flight stresses. The MGM Compro TMM 40-3ph ESCs also were flawless thru the abuse we put them through in the crashes and flights.
When we first started trying to bungee launch we had the control throws set like the stock Twin Jet and the CG set about 1/4" forward of the reccomended setting. Well..The aileron function was extremely sensitive and the planes roll rate was radical to say the least, we have since cut the rate down to 40% of the original travel. The CG was WAY too forward and this kept the plane too low to the ground off the launcher even when holding up on the launch. The CG is now 1/4" behind the recommended stock TJ location. We also moved the hook location back an inch.
Next we move to tests with the 2400 packs. The 1700s gave us a little over 2 minutes of flight.
10 CELL CP2400 FLIGHT TEST
Our flights with the 10 cell CP2400 pack were much better than with the CP1700s. The CP2400s definitely liked the 60 amp draw much better and we notice higher RPMs from the fans and a noticable flying speed increase. The plane was a little bit heavier, but it flew better. The RTF wieght of the plane with the 2400s is 68.18 oz. The wing loading is 24.88 oz/sq foot. The 2400s are the way to go on this project.
