This E conversion project was my first venture into using LiPo (Lithium Polymer) batteries in a large scale airplane.

This was a very easy conversion, Great Planes did a great job producing a light kit. Also the use of LiPo batteries reduced the wieght by another 7.8 ouces compared to using NimH or Nicad batteries. Total all up wieght was 9.8 pounds.

I lightened a few ply formers, built an engine mount, and a battery tray. I created a hinged door to access the battery pack.

This new set up uses a Lehner 2230 12D wind kv1644, Reisenauer Super Chief 6:1 gear box. Future 32.80 ESC, 14" 3 bladed vario prop, 8s4p Thunderpower pack. Amp draw 46 amps.
Battery packs used were 2 4s4p Thunder power Lithium Polymer 8200ma packs wired in series to make an 8s4p pack.

When I changed over from a Hacker B50 12 XL to the Lehner 2230 with 6:1 GB I found that I was only pulling 36 amps WOT on the 14x8 3 bladed Vario prop. To get the speed and performance to surpass the B50XL/ 3.7:1GB I increased the prop pitch to 11 1/2 with amp draw of 46 amps @ WOT. Motor temps after 9 minute flights are 130 degree F, 92 degree F ambient.
